About Michael Miller . . .
Michael Miller is Chief Technical Consultant at INFORMATICA. Mr. Miller has 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing and distribution, in addition to working in technical capacities at other science related firms.
Mr. Miller is responsible for several firsts with health industry bar coding:
	The first mass production of tiny unit packages with bar coding. Michael Miller is known as the "Father of Unit Dose Bar Coding", a technical breakthrough that is ushering in changes to the healthcare products supply chain similar to those experienced by the retail and grocery products sectors. Read the book "Powershift" by Alvin Toffler, author of "Future Shock".
The first unit packages with 2-Dimensional bar codes. The first fully bar coded product line at all packaging levels including secondary (lot and expiration date) information. The creation of technical standards to support unit of use bar coding in healthcare. The first bar code labeling software for the health industry. The first bar code scanner specifically for healthcare. The first data normalization software for healthcare product identification.

Over the past several years, Mr. Miller has advised many of the top drug and medical device manufacturers about bar code technology. Many bar code projects in place (patient identification, medical records, lab, pharmacy, point of care, central stores and receiving) at healthcare providers have benefited from Mr. Miller's expertise.

Mr. Miller has a degree in Management Information Systems. He is immediate past Co-Chair of the Health Industry Business Communications Council (HIBCC) Automatic Identification Technical Committee. He has been a featured speaker at Scan-Tech conventions, ID Expo, Health Industry EDI Coalition (HEDIC), the Uniform Code Council (UCC), the National Wholesale Druggists Association (NWDA), and HIBCC's Annual Conference. He won the 1994 NWDA(HDMA) ProTech Technology Award. 
He has advised both NASA and Pentagon officials on bar code technology. He is also a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the Association for Quality and Participation (AQP), the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP), and the Warehousing Education and Research Council.
