| What is UPN Gen™? |
UPN Gen™ is the fast and painless way to
create product identifier data files according to the UPN Standard. The data files
created by UPN Gen can are compatible with the Health Industry UPN Repository at HIBCC,
The DoD DAPA UPN database, California's MediCal bid requirements for UPN, and of course
the applicable UCC and HIBCC standards. The data files created by UPN Gen can also
support virtually any bar code labeling software. Special menu options exist for seamless
integration with Bar Code Pro and LabelView
Healthcare.

| What does it do, exactly? |
UPN Gen™ enables one to use any ODBC
database table as source data. Tell UPN Gen which column in the table is your
product number or ID. Tell UPN Gen which column is your package level
indicator. UPN Gen then creates the UPN Identifer, appends it to the record, and
writes out a new database table with just the fields you select.

| What if I don't have a column for
package indicator or unit of measure? |
UPN Gen™ enables one to select a discrete
package indicator for each record, or a range, or a named set of indicators. It's
very easy.

| In the meantime, we've posted version 1.1 here primarily as an educational tool to demonstrate
the following basic principles: |
- The UPN Identifier is NOT the same as the bar
code data.
|
- All UPN bar codes require a layer of middleware
to unpack and format the UPN Identifier data.
|
- All UPN bar codes require a human readable
interpretation that differs from the bar code data and the UPN Identifier.
